chasing the sun

I know what you’re all saying…and you’d be absolutely right. “Its about damn time…”


Well, thus begins my first new blog in like ten years or a month or something. I am posting from the lovely and picturesque city of Birmingham, England. I have enjoyed two days here with my friend Beth Smith and today I am off to discover what trouble and adventure may be found further north in Durham.

This is the land of my ancestors and I feel a distant draw to it that I cannot explain. I love the UK for many reasons, not the least of which is the wonderful people I always meet when I come here (“always” might be a bit of an exaggeration since this is only my second visit!!).

And I want to say that God is getting my attention here. I could not hear Him in Chicago, but I can hear Him here. He is speaking to me about the future and about courage and about love at its purest depth. He is rushing to meet the deep longing I have felt for ages and ages – I will find Him here on some hill top in the north, or some bustling street in London, or perhaps in a beautiful old cathedral in Edinburgh.

So, here’s to something amazing…to chocolate that melts in your hand, but tastes like a little bit of heaven…to eloquence and stunning accents…to all the hospitality this great land has offered us already…to the faithful who see not impossibility and futility, but potential for miracles…to the queen…
