chasing the sun

the continuing search for the unattainable

I have to type fast and hope this dumb internet cafe computer doesn't kick me off.

well, Lisa and I are on a whirlwind tour of the UK, complete with a day-trip to lovely Edinburgh, and an assortment of plane, train, bus and car rides through all types of amazing scenery. I have seen more sheep than I care to think and met many people whose names I know I will soon forget.

Best of all is that my friend Peter is now the husband of a wonderful girl aptly named "Joy." Their wedding was in a beautiful church in Carlisle in the north of England and the reception was held at the Shap Wells hotel, which I would recommend to anyone. After we bid farewell to Peter and Joy (they are currently enjoying 10 magical days in Bali!!), then we drank and talked to loads of great people at the reception before turning in for the night. Yes, I did dance a little too, but only at the beginning (I highly recommend country line dancing while in England, by the way). Actually, the rest of the dancing was to rubbish music and was honestly a bit painful to watch.

Anyway, next morning we were off to Scotland to tour the famous Edinburgh castle - can i just say, BREATHTAKING!!! - and walk the streets a while. It was the last day of the festival and there were all sorts of little booths and street performances and one fortune-teller who was dressed in a pale pink nightgown and had piercings on just about every inch of her face.

Yesterday, we flew back down to England and met up with some of Lisa's friends in East Croydon, south of London. They took us to see Winston Churchill's home and studio - it turns out he wasn't a bad painter. We arrived in Knightbridge yesterday evening to the posh little flat we are staying in for the remainder of our trip. We spent today walking around London town - we visited Westminster Abbey and rode the London Eye (Yes, Allan, I know its way too expensive, but honestly....) - and it was 82 degrees today - glorious sunny weather predicted through at least tomorrow.

There are only a few days left of this trip, then a day in Chicago, before I return to Texas for who knows how long. I am hoping - wishing - that I knew more specifically where I should go and what I should do about school and life, but things seem a little distant, not too real at the moment, and that's okay. For now I'm just enjoying the view...
